Pisces Albafica Fanfic 1: Upset Tummy

Something is not right with his boy today. He did not come out of his room this morning for breakfast together. Yesterday, Defteros brought him home on his back saying Albafica had fallen off the Apple Tree near the Scorpio Temple and Albafica keep saying he was okay and nothing had happened.

Pisces Rugonis knocked on Albafica bedroom door again.

“Albafica, are you okay? It is almost noon now and you still haven’t eaten your breakfast.”

Rugonis heard a muffled voice from behind the door, “I’m okay, Master. I just have an upset tummy. Just let me sleep it off please.”

“You don’t sound well, my boy; let me take a look.”

“No, no, I’ll be okay” Albafica replied back.

Albafica do not sound that well; seriously he sounded like he was in pain which do not sound like from an upset stomach. Rugonis sighed.

Rugonis suddenly heard a knock on the front door. He left the bedroom door of Albafica’s room and walked to the cottage’s front door.

“Who is it?” Rugonis called out.

“It’s me, Defteros, Rugonis-sama. I have come to see Albafica” the voice behind the door replied back.

Rugonis opened the front door of the cottage and there at the doorway stood Defteros, the twin brother of Gemini Aspros. Few knew of his existence but Rugonis had knew him for several years now, if not since they arrived at The Sanctuary as Defteros like to pop by the Rose Garden near the Pisces Palace where he guards, to admire the flowers there. He also love to read and being unable to leave the Sanctuary much or wander around the place freely, he love to listen to Rugonis’ story about the travels he had done in his youth.

“Aaaa……it’s you Defteros. Come in” Rugonis replied.

“I brought along some Peach Pie, Rugonis-sama. I baked some this morning for Aspros and my dinner later tonight so I thought I’ll bring along some too, to share as I baked too much again.”

Defteros passed the Peach Pie to Rugonis as he entered the Cottage.

“This pie smell very delicious. You added in some Cinnamon too?” Rugonis replied as he sniffed the sweet aroma the pie was giving out.

“Yes, just a dash. It apparently helps to bring out the sweetness of the ripe peaches more in my humble opinion.” Defteros said. “How is Albafica by the way?”

Rugonis gave a sigh as he placed the Peach Pie on the small dinner table.

“He refused to come out of his room since yesterday when you brought him home. He keep insisting it’s an upset stomach but from the tone of his voice, it doesn’t sound like one”

“Maybe he will open up to me……” Defteros said.

“Be my guest to try it out” Rugonis sighed.

Defteros went to the door of Albafica bedroom and gently knock on the door.

“Albafica, it’s me Defteros. Can you let me in? Maybe I can take a look at your upset tummy”

“I’m okay…..I just need to sleep this off” Albafica replied behind the closed door.

“You dun sound okay, Albafica,” Defteros replied. “It looks like you had a bad fall yesterday. Please let me in so I can take a look. I can make you something to nurse your upset tummy…”

“Is Master Rugonis there with you?” Albafica replied.

Defteros bit his lips. Rugonis is still in the kitchen but he was within earshot of them. “No, he’s in the kitchen. I have brought some Peach Pie…..you want to have a taste of it? Today’s one is extra delicious.”

Albafica finally opened the bedroom door and Defteros could see he was in extreme pain. His face was fluttered red and tears can be seen in his eyes like he had been crying in pain all night. He was holding on to his left arm which looked awfully swollen now and was limping as he tried to walk back to his bed.

“That doesn’t look like just an upset tummy, Albafica” Defteros sounded. “Let me take a look at your arm.”

“No, it’s okay! Just a bit of bruising from the fall yesterday!” Albafica tried to pull away from Defteros outreaching hand.

Defteros gently pull at Albafica’s left arm and Albafica gave a loud yell.

“Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow!”

“That looks like a broken bone” Rugonis said as he entered the room. “Why wouldn’t you tell me earlier, Albafica?”

Albafice burst into tears.

“I’m afraid you’ll get angry, Master” he said between sobs.

“I was just trying to help Kardia get some ripe apples from the top of the tree when a cat jumped out from behind some branches above me giving me a fright and I lost my footing. I thought it was nothing, like a twisted wrist or something but the pain won’t go away” Albafica continue sobbing.

Rugonis set himself beside Albafica on the bed edge and caress the top of his head.

“No, I won’t be angry. Accidents do happen and I love you like my own son. So of course I will care if anything happens to you even if it’s your fault.”

Albafica continued sobbing, “I’m sorry, Master”

Defteros scooped up Albafica from the side of the bed and started carrying him toward the front door. Rugonis followed beside him.

“Come, I’ll bring you to the doctor to have a look at your arm. That ankle of yours could also use some looking at too as it could be a bad sprain”

Albafica didn’t resist and instead buried his face in Defteros chest as he continued sobbing.

“Boys will always be boys,” Rugonis sighed.

“Now, now, don’t cry anymore, Albafica,” Defteros said. “When we get back, I’ll make you a milk pudding to smooth the pain away.”



THE NEXT DAY


“Are you comfortable, Albafice? Need more pillows?” Rugonis asked as he placed the tray of food on the table beside Albafica’s bed.

The visit to the doctor yesterday had confirmed that Albafica had broken his left arm so it had been put into a splint now. He will have to take it easy the next month or so till the bone heal.

“I’m good, Master. Thank you,” Albafica replied.

“Does it still hurt?” Rugonis sat down on the side of the bed as he pulled nearer the bowl of porridge to Albafica.

“A bit. But not as bad as yesterday,”

Suddenly, there was a knock on the front door. Rugonis stood up and walk towards the door.

“Who is it?” Rugonis asked

“Rugonis-sama, it’s me Defteros,” the voice behind the door answered.

Rugonis opened the door and there stood Defteros holding a plate of Pies. And there behind him, was Kardia. He was holding tightly to the back of Defteros tunic as he tried to hide.

“I see you have also brought a visitor,” Rugonis exclaimed

“Come Kardia, don’t you have something to say to Rugonis-sama?” Defteros coaxed Kardia.

Kardia buried his face behind Defteros, “I’m sorry, Master Rugonis….for causing Albafica to hurt himself the day before while picking apples for me. I’m sorry I didn’t help him after he fell down the tree”

Rugonis smiled. It’s not everyday one get to hear Kardia apologizing to someone over his mistakes. Kardia had arrived at Sanctuary a year ago, brought in by Master Krest and even though his health was poor, his tongue was sharp and he was not easily apologetic about his wrongdoing. Rugonis chuckle thinking about what Defteros could have done to make Kardia feel sorry for his action. Must be the threat about not baking him anymore his favourite apple pies. Then again, Kardia could be a simple minded person and can get tricked easily.

“Apology accepted, Kardia,” Rugonis replied. “Just make sure you do not do it again, okay. Or at least help instead of running away after what you did”

Kardia peep out from behind Defteros, “I will try, Master Rugonis,” Kardia mumbled.

“Come, Albafica is resting in his room now. Don’t you want to visit him too?” Rugonis asked. “We could share this Pie together”

“That’ll be great, Rugonis-sama,” Defteros replied. Together, the three of them made their way to Albafica room.
